Your books stay on your computer unless you choose to send them
There is no Langbyrde server holding your data and no account to create. Here is what is stored where, how it is protected, and every address the app can connect to.
What is stored where
Documents, in a folder you choose
Statements, receipts, the invoices you issue, backups and exports, in a local folder, OneDrive or iCloud Drive. If you choose a cloud drive, that provider holds those files under your account.
Nothing, with us
Langbyrde the company holds no copy of your books or documents, and nothing about them is sent as a side effect of using the app.
How your data is protected
- Sensitive details are encrypted by default: bank, transit and account numbers, SINs, client and vendor tax numbers, and employees’ names and addresses. Your company’s own GST/HST number, and client and vendor names and addresses, are not. The keys live in your computer’s own keychain, not with us.
- The whole file can be encrypted too. Turn it on per company in Settings; a copied file or backup then cannot be opened without this computer’s keys. Opening it on another computer with a passphrase or the recovery kit is not in this version yet.
- Most backups are encrypted. The backup taken just before an update changes your file, a backup you choose to write without encryption, and a full export are not; the sensitive details inside them stay encrypted.
- Keep the recovery kit safe. A set of words shown when you create the company, and printable again on this computer. In this version it resets a forgotten app-lock passcode; restoring on a new computer will need it once that is built. Nobody else holds a copy, so keep it somewhere safe, away from the computer.
- An optional app lock. A passcode for this computer, on top of your computer’s own sign-in.
- Nothing is deleted behind your back. A file Langbyrde replaces in your folder is set aside in a folder beside it, not removed.
Every address the app can contact
Langbyrde connects only to these addresses, plus any AI provider address you add yourself; the app itself blocks any other. In the Offline setting it starts no connection on its own, and everything still works.

From the privacy policy. The Network activity page in Settings shows the last call of each kind and whether it was allowed. Your operating system may make connections of its own, such as checking the app’s signature; those are not made by Langbyrde.
AI only with your key, and only what you allow
- AI is off until you add a provider yourself, with your own key or a model on your own computer.
- Text requests have account numbers, tax numbers and similar details removed before they are sent.
- In this version a provider can suggest reconciliation matches, explain a transaction and draft memos. No receipt image is sent; if receipt reading arrives, an image will be sent only if your provider settings allow images.
- What a provider returns is a suggestion that you accept or reject, not a recorded fact.
The app has no telemetry
The app does not count your clicks, report your usage or carry any third-party tracking software. Crash reports are off by default; if you turn them on, each one is shown to you in full and sent only when you press Send.
This website
This website sets no cookies, measures nothing and loads nothing from other sites. It can remember your colour theme in your own browser, and nothing else.
A licence file, not an account
Activation contacts the licence server once per computer, when you click. After that the licence is checked on your own computer only: no expiry, no renewal, no re-checking. Without a licence after the trial, Langbyrde switches to read-only mode: you can still read everything, print and export your reports, export the CPA package and all your data, and make backups. Nothing is deleted.
