Website privacy and cookies

  • Version: 1.3
  • Effective: 2026-10-08

This notice covers the website at langbyrde.app, run by Vyshynskyi Consulting Inc., Toronto, Ontario. It does not cover the Langbyrde desktop app or the licence service; the privacy policy covers those, and also explains how to ask what we hold about you and how we answer. The app has no telemetry: nothing in this notice changes that.

The short version

  • The website sets no cookies and makes no request to anyone else until you agree.
  • It may measure visits with Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, only if you accept. You are asked once, in a small bar at the bottom of the page, and you can change your mind at any time in Cookie settings in the footer of every page. Rejecting is as easy as accepting.
  • While we have not switched analytics on, there is nothing to accept: the bar and the analytics choice do not appear, and nothing from Google is ever loaded.
  • There is no advertising, no remarketing and no selling of data.
  • It can keep two small settings in your browser's local storage, on your device only: your colour theme, and your choices in the cookie settings panel.

Analytics, only if you accept

Measuring visits is not needed to show you the site, so it is off until you accept.

  • Before you choose, and if you reject: no Google script loads, no request goes to Google, and no analytics cookie is set. The page tells Google's consent settings "denied" for analytics and for every advertising purpose.
  • If you accept: Google Tag Manager loads Google Analytics 4. It records the pages you view, the site that sent you, your browser, device type and approximate location (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), and three clicks: Get the beta, a download, and a link to the user guide. Each click carries only the page address it points to and where on the page it was, never a query string, an e-mail address or anything you type.
  • Who receives it: Google, as our service provider. Google may process it outside Canada.
  • How long: Google Analytics keeps it for two months. Its cookies, _ga and _ga_…, last up to 13 months unless you reject analytics or clear them.
  • What we never do: advertising features, remarketing, Google Signals, user ids, sharing data with Google for its own purposes, or sending an e-mail address from a beta request.
  • Changing your mind: choose Reject analytics in Cookie settings. Measuring stops on the page you are on, the _ga cookies are removed from this site, and Google Tag Manager is not loaded on any later page.

What is stored in your browser

  • lb-theme holds light or dark. It is written when you choose Light or Dark with the theme control, and only while "Remember my colour theme" is on. Choosing System removes it.
  • lb-consent holds your answers in the cookie settings panel and the consent bar: whether to remember your theme, and whether you accepted analytics. It is written when you save a choice.
  • Only if you accept analytics: Google Analytics' own cookies, _ga and _ga_…, described above.

Clear stored settings in the cookie settings panel removes lb-theme and lb-consent, stops analytics and asks again next time. Your browser's own control for a site's data removes everything.

Choose Cookie settings in the footer of any page to open the panel. It lists exactly what the site can store, lets you turn off remembering your theme, accept or reject analytics (when analytics is switched on), and clear what is stored.

If your browser blocks local storage, everything still works. Your theme then applies to one page at a time, and an analytics choice lasts for one page.

What the host can see

The website is delivered by our content-delivery provider, which has servers around the world, so your request may be handled outside Canada. As with any web host, when you load a page it receives your IP address and the technical details of the request, such as the address you asked for, your browser type and the time. It needs these to deliver the page and to keep the site safe from abuse, and keeps its own standard operating records under its own policies.

E-mail

The site has no sign-up forms. Its e-mail links open your own e-mail program, and what you send is used to answer you. If you ask for beta access, we use your address to answer you and to run the beta. We do not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing e-mail unless you have agreed to it, and any such e-mail says who sent it, how to reach us and how to unsubscribe, with a link that works.
