Langbyrde organises and extracts your records. It is not tax, accounting or legal advice, and it does not file on your behalf.

The fine print, in plain words

Per seat, per major version. A seat is one named person, active on up to two computers at once. Your licence covers every version 1 release and does not expire.
Updates are free within version 1, and optional. You do not have to update to keep working.
Version 2, when it comes, is a paid upgrade. Version 1 keeps working if you do not buy it.
45-day trial, no account. Every feature for 45 days from the first time you open the app, and it works offline.
Read-only mode, not a lock-out. Without a licence after the trial, Langbyrde switches to read-only mode: you can still read everything, print and export your reports, export the CPA package and all your data, and make backups. Nothing is deleted.
Prices are in Canadian dollars. Any sales tax that applies is shown at checkout, with the full price, before you pay.
Payment, sales tax and refunds go through Paddle, the reseller that sells you the licence and issues your receipt (its merchant of record), under its refund policy at the time you buy. Today that policy lets you ask for a refund within 14 days of buying, which Paddle grants at its discretion, and gives a consumer in Canada an unconditional right to cancel within 7 days. To ask for a refund, use the link in your receipt or write to support@langbyrde.app. A refund ends the licence it paid for.
Limits on liability. If something goes wrong, our liability is limited to the greater of what you paid and the list price of a seat, $149 CAD for version 1 today. The terms set out the exceptions the law requires.
Not included: the United States and European Union editions, which are separate products with their own licence when they exist.

Questions about the licence

Do I need AI, or an API key?

No. Langbyrde works fully without AI: category suggestions come from your past choices and its built-in model. If you add your own AI provider or a model on your own computer, in this version it can suggest reconciliation matches, explain a transaction and draft memos. It connects to providers through the widely used OpenAI-compatible interface, which local model runners also offer. Each suggestion waits for you to accept it.

What happens after the 45-day trial?

The trial gives you every feature for 45 days from the first time you open the app, with no account and no internet needed. Without a licence after the trial, Langbyrde switches to read-only mode: you can still read everything, print and export your reports, export the CPA package and all your data, and make backups. Nothing is deleted. Activating a licence turns editing back on.

What if Langbyrde the company goes away?

Your licence is checked on your own computer and has no expiry, so a computer you have already activated keeps working. Activating a new or reinstalled computer needs our licence service. Your books are a file you hold, and the full export writes everything out as a plain SQLite database and one CSV per table, which other tools can open; the sensitive details that are encrypted stay encrypted.

Mac or Windows?

Both, with one licence. macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel; Windows 10 or 11. One seat can be active on two computers at once, a Mac and a PC included.
